POSSIBLY MORE PREP CHAMPIONSHIPS FOR POLK TEAMS? UPDATED 05/12 - 06:39 AM

The Florida High School Athletic Association baseball and softball championships are coming to their climax this week and next. Two championship has been brought home to Polk County, and three more may be enroute.

Congratulations go out to the Bartow Yellow Jackets, who won their fifth consecutive 4A softball championship Thursday night at Plant City Stadium with a win over Navarre to finish the season at 29-1 They are also ranked eighth nationally in the latest USA Today/National Fastpitch Coaches' Association Top 25 poll. And kudos to those tough Frostproof Bulldogs (21-7), who brought home the 3A softball title with a 9-0 victory Tuesday over Williston. Today, Auburndale (25-5) takes on Pace (27-3) in a 5A semifinal game.

In the baseball tournament being played at Sarasota's Ed Smith Stadium next Wednesday, Lakeland Santa Fe Catholic (22-8) will take on Delray Beach American Heritage (23-4) in one of the 2A semifinals at around 1:00 PM. The Winter Haven Blue Devils (23-7) faces off against Pace in a 5A semi at 5:00 PM.
