HOW CAN PEOPLE BE SO CRUEL WHEN THEY DON'T HAVE TO?

Two similar incidents this week show just how folks can be especially cruel.

Yesterday, a maintainence worker found a newborn baby that had been tossed in a garbage dumpster at a North Lakeland apartment complex. And late last night, Tampa police officers dispatched to the report of a fight discovered a decomposed newborn in an alley.

It is just beyond comprehension, because they didn't have to die. Under a law passed nearly six years ago, the parent or relative of a newborn child three days old or less can drop the baby off at a hospital, firehouse, or doctor's office without the threat of being charged with threat, abuse, or abandonment. And the individual can remain anonymous.

One can only ask why...
