DON'T QUITE COUNT A GOP U.S. SENATE PRIMARY OUT...OR IS IT JUST ANOTHER TEASE???

The Lakeland Ledger reported on it's Web site late this morning that Congresswoman Katherine Harris (R - Longboat Key) may just find a primary opponent, after all. State Representative Dennis Ross of Lakeland confirmed to Ledger political writer Bill Rufty that he is considering challenging the former Secretary of State, and was scheduled to speak to Governor Jeb Bush this afternoon about the possibility.

Ross is a 46-year-old attorney who had originally considered a run for State Chief Executive Officer until informed that he would have to divest himself of all interest in his law firm. As a candidate for U.S. Senate, Ross would only have to remove his name from the firm.

Rufty points out that a Harris - Ross race would be an all Polk County affair. Both were born and raised locally, and graduated from Polk schools.

It may just be another case of wishful thinking for some Florida Republicans. A filing fee of nearly $10,000 would be due in Tallahassee by noon tomorrow. I'm sure he could raise the funds, and Ross sounds as though he just may be serious enough to do it. As he was quoted:

"I just feel that I have invested too much in my party for the Republican Party now to be writing off this election...I will talk to the governor for his advice before making a final decision."

Sounds like they're trying to make a "24"-like drama out of this...
