SOME SUPER BOWL THOUGHTS
My son and I enjoyed the evening watching the NFL championship game at home with a couple of Pizza Hut specialities and 2 liter soft drinks. He was rooting for the Seahawks, which allowed yours truly to have some fun. Needless to say, I was rooting for the Steelers, although I expected them to win by a wider marger (14). While it was not a great game, it was quite good and didn't get too much out of hand. But while Pittsburgh HB Jerome "The Bus" Bettis didn't have the day he really wanted in his hometown performance-wise, he got what he really wanted: The Vince Lombardi Trophy for his team, a Super Bowl championship ring for himself, and a great way to (likely) end a career that will get him inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio.
I heard Bettis say he would likely wrap up his career with yesterday's game, and believe that he will, indeed, make it official very soon. His knees/legs are nowhere near where they used to be, and he has nothing more to prove.
I really enjoyed the Motown salute before the game with Stevie Wonder and other notables from the music world, but we agreed that something was lacking from Aaron Neville's performance during the Star Spangled Banner, somewhat made up for by Aretha Franklin. Some of the audio issues that occured during the pre-game concert also affected at least the early part of the halftime performance by the Rolling Stones. Really, I'm not a huge fan of the Stones, and feel it's about time for Mick and the boys to settle down in a nice condo in Port Charlotte or Melbourne for their retirement.
Overall, Super Bowl XL will not rate among the classics, but the event is always a great time to enjoy...especially with family and/or friends.
