ALBERTO STRENGTHENS SLIGHTLY, BUT NOT MUCH TO REALLY WORRY ABOUT

Tropical Storm Alberto is still heading toward the north-central Florida coast, located at 7:00 AM approximately 295 miles southwest of Cedar Key. It is heading north-northeast but is expected to take more of a northeastward turn as the day progresses.

It strengthed slightly overnight, with highest sustained winds of near 50 MPH. Alberto may fluctuate a bit before making landfall, but it's not expected to build up any more --- at least, not significantly. The main issue here will be the rain, a couple of inches expected over the next couple of days, but we need it.

Of course, with any system of this type there is always the threat of tornadoes, and there is a tornado warning for central Polk County for another couple of minutes thanks to the local radar detecting what may be one east of Bartow.

This will just be a day or two to stay inside and relax...

What is the weather like in Lakeland? Did people make any preparations for Alberto or are they taking it in stride given the current track?
