YOU NEVER KNOW WHO'LL DROP IN...

Was at the Polk County Democratic Executive Committee meeting last evening in Bartow, and we got a bit of a surprise: DeeDee, the wife of State Senator and gubernatorial candidate Rod Smith, dropped in and gave a nice, basic ten minute presentation to the gathering. She didn't have to stick around for the usual business, but chose to in order to meet and greet those in attendance afterward.

I can say that among a number of the party faithful in Polk County, Senator Smith seems to have attracted a good following. Of course, one has to remember that there are still a large number of undecideds, or who really have no preference between the Alachua attorney and primary opponent Congressman Jim Davis of Tampa and will simply support the winner. But Smith's personality and his ability to excite the activists seem to be definately working to his advantage.

Mrs. Smith did mention that they are about to begin a whirlwind bus tour of Florida, and that it will bring them to Lakeland next week.
