ARE YOU READY FOR MORE CAMPAIGN ADS (AT LEAST A COUPLE OF THEM)?
For the past couple of months, it seems as though Attorney General Charlie Crist has been the only candidate for governor. At least some folks would come away with that conclusion, as his are the only campaign TV ads on the air. That's what happens when you have a fundraising pace that could set records; he just announced another $2 million collected between April 1 - June 30.
His GOP primary opponent, Chief Financial Officer Tom Gallagher, will begin his advertising campaign this week with a piece touting his three decades in public service.
Neither of the major Democratic candidates, Congressman Jim Davis and State Senator Rod Smith, have the financial resources their Republican opponents do at present, so don't expect them to be seen much on the small screen anytime soon. And those are the two candidates that NEED to be seen more and for their names to be out before the voters.
But that hasn't stopped them from sniping at each other. Between the Smith campaign's highlighting Davis' congressional voting record (or lack of it) and the Davis team's pointing out Smith's friendship with a Gainesville business owner who is near the centre of the current Corrections Department scandal, one probably doesn't remember that they had agreed to avoid such stuff when they began.
You think that actually may be a GOOD thing that they haven't started running TV ads? Seriously, people aren't going to listen to you until they know who you are...so shouldn't Davis and Smith concentrate on letting Floridians know THAT?
