THE THREAT IS OVER

Tropical Storm Alberto made landfall around midday in the Big Bend area southeast of Tallahassee. The effect here in Polk County was rather minimal, with a little breeze and mainly a rain event through the early part of today.

When I left for work shortly before 8:30 this morning the clouds had begun to break, and what rain there was left to pass over us did so before noon. Alberto did more good than bad here, as it 1) gave the ground a nice, well needed drenching, and 2) gave the emergency operations folks a good excuse to insure that plans are in place and working well so that when "the big one" comes our way, they will be ready in Bartow.
