OOPS, SO MUCH FOR NON-PARTISAN

Jeremy Wallace of the Sarasota Herald-Tribune reports in the newspaper's political blog Political Insider this weekend that the Siesta Key/Greater Sarasota Club had invited all candidates for the four seats on the non-partisan Sarasota County School Board to address it's membership in Osprey tomorrow night. However, it rescinded the invitation to the only registered Democrat --- and the first one in years --- who is seeking a spot on the board.

While I am a loyal Democrat, and support any qualified Democrat who runs for office, Mr. Wallace failed to mention that it is the Siesta Key/Greater Sarasota Republican Club, and that even in non-partisan races only GOPers are usually invited to such club events. Democratic clubs generally follow the same practice.

BTW: Good luck to the candidate in question, Shirley Brown, who previously served eight years in the Florida Legislature until 2000. Someone of her background and knowledge of the inner workings of the Legislature would be a huge plus for the SCSB.
