EXCELLENT TURNOUT FOR A MIDTERM ELECTION PREDICTED

A number of pundits have been saying that this is one of the most important midterm elections in recent memory, and many people seem to agree. The Lakeland Ledger reports this morning that Polk County Supervisor of Elections Lori Edwards is predicting a 50 percent turnout of the county's 293,481 registered voters by the time polling places close at 7:00 PM.

Ms. Edwards told the newspaper that more than 41,000 people either took advantage of the Early Voting option (13,754) or voted absentee (27,668). She noted that "There has been a lot of last-minute activity, which makes me believe there will be a healthy turnout...There has been a lot of last-minute walk-in voting and the phones have been ringing off the hook".

If this turns out to be the case elsewhere in Florida, it should be a very interesting evening.
