MORE ENDORSEMENTS! (AND, IN CASE YOU MISSED IT, THE LIST SO FAR)
The Palm Beach Post today offered it's endorsement to Democrat Alex Sink's campaign for Chief Financial Officer. It notes that "The chief financial officer is just one of four votes to hire the state's top insurance regulator. But the chief financial officer also supervises the insurance consumer advocate. You get the feeling that Alex Sink will be a strong consumer advocate herself, and voters should give her the chance".
The Post to date has endorsed:
U.S. Senate: Bill Nelson (D)
Attorney General: Walter G. "Skip" Campbell, Jr. (D)
Chief Financial Officer: Alex Sink (D)
Secretary of Agriculture & Consumer Services: Charles H. Bronson (R)
The Daytona Beach News Journal has also begun announcing it's endorsements; today it's Bill Nelson for the U.S. Senate, saying that "The Orlando Democrat has earned those votes because he is thoughtful, trustworthy and effective. Floridians know they can count on him to study issues before casting his vote. Even when people disagree with Nelson, they respect him...The same cannot be said of his opponent, U.S. Rep. Katherine Harris".
The News Journal to date has endorsed:
U.S. Senate: Bill Nelson (D)
Attorney General: Walter G. "Skip" Campbell (D)
Chief Financial Officer: Alex Sink (D)
Secretary of Agriculture & Consumer Services: Eric Copeland (D)
So far those are the only two major newspapers who are offereing their endorsements on statewide races this early. My guess is that they want to ensure those voters who will be casting their ballots during the early voting period (October 23 through November 4) are aware of who they favour.
