RETURNING TO IT'S ROOTS

American Media, Inc. announced Wednesday that it's flagship publication, the National Enquirer, will be returning it's editorial headquarters to Boca Raton next month as part of a cost-cutting plan.

Also announced was the return to the weekly tabloid of former editor-in-chief David Perel, following a year under the direction of a British editorial team.

The move is expected to save AMI approximately $10 million in rent and salary costs. The company announced it would fold three other publications.

I'm not sure which media HQ departure from south Florida was a greater blow: American Media a couple of years ago, or Knight Ridder back around 1998.

Also note that the corporate base will still be in NY, so this is a tenuous situation.

With KR's corpse now being dismantled, and AMI sputtering toward death, not sure either move ultimately matters.
