Early Thursday afternoon a fire broke out at the parking lot of the Sun-'n-Fun Fly-In being held at the Lakeland Linder Regional Airport. Twenty-three cars were touched by the flames, with nine of them destroyed.

The interesting item about this story, as reported in today's Lakeland Ledger, is that the fire started when the catalytic converter of a Maserati ignited the dry grass beneath it, said Frank Bass, a Lakeland Fire Department investigator. Maseratis start at $80,000, and some sell for at least twice that much.

The owner of the Maserati, who was quite upset, declined to comment.

Maybe he/she realized the insurance just lapsed or forgot to make the premimum payment.
