AND OH, THE MIGHTY SHALL FALL
Remember when the Christian Coalition, founded by televangalist Pat Robertson and headed by Ralph Reed, had some real influence throughout the federal government and many state houses, distributing voter guides through thousands of churches and enjoying a $26 million budget with a dozen lobbyists on Capitol Hill?
Oh, how times have changed.
According to a story in Monday's Washington Post, the organization "is more than $2 million in debt, beset by creditors' lawsuits and struggling to hold on to some of its state chapters..."
"Today, it has a single Washington employee who works out of his home. Its phone number with a 202 area code is automatically forwarded to a small office in Charleston, S.C."
The Christian Coalition continues to be included in meetings with White House and conservative leaders, but other groups such as Focus on the Family and the Family Research Council have eclipsed it's position of strength and influence. This has happened as it continues to promote itself as "the largest and most active conservative grassroots political organization in America".
It's interesting to read what has happened to the Christian Coalition, and it should be a lesson to any organization on what not to do. It's definately worth your time to read the entire piece.
