A VERY RARE EVENT: SIX PRESENT/FORMER FLORIDA GOVERNORS ON THE SAME STAGE

Got word that our current governor, as well as former Florida governors Claude Kirk, Reuben Askew, Bob Graham, Bob Martinez, and Buddy MacKay, will apper together Monday, March 27 in an evening panel sponsored by the Lou Frey Institute for Politics and Government at the University of Central Florida.

The six men, representing nearly four decades of leadership in the state's highest office, will also participate in sessions throughout the day beginning at 9:30 AM, mainly focusing on their own times as governor. The main session, where they will appear together, will begin at 7:00 PM in the UCF Student Union's Pegasus Ballroom.

A little trivia: The only governors from 1967, when Kirk took office, to the present that will not/be unable to be present will be:

--- John Wayne Mixon, who served in the office for all of three days (January 3-6, 1987) when Bob Graham left office to become a U.S. Senator.

--- and Lawton Chiles, who passed away December 12, 1998 (Buddy MacKay was already Chiles' lieutenant governor, so assumed office three weeks early).
