HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY...BUT NO MEAT FOR SOME!

Today is St. Patrick's Day, celebrating the patron saint of Ireland who served as the second bishop of the country. What was once considered a Catholic holy day has become more of a secular holiday, as people of all faiths throughout much of the world celebrate it with parades, wearing green (I don't mind being pinched, according to who's doing it), drinking beer, and eating corned beef.

However, some folks will not get to enjoy the corned beef today. Devout Roman Catholics ages 14 and up are to abstain from eating meat during the Fridays of Lent unless their work or health make it inadvisable to do so.

Enjoy the day, anyway!

What work could one do that requires meat eating, I wonder?

This is a little behind, but the bishop allowed Catholics to have meat on St. Patrick's Day since the traditional fare is tradition for us Irish Catholics. Instead, we had to abstain another day of the week.
