BUSH TO ANNOUNCE ROBERTS AS NOMINEE FOR SUPREME COURT JUSTICE TONIGHT AT 9:00 ET

The White House has announced that President Bush will officially announce his selection for the United States Supreme Court position being vacated with the retirement of Sandra Day O'Connor in a televised address to the nation tonight at 9:00.

CNN is reporting that the nominee will be Judge John G. Roberts, Jr.. Roberts is a graduate of Harvard Law School and served as special assistant to then-Attorney General William French Smith, associate White House counsel under Ronald Reagan and deputy solicitor general in George H.W. Bush's administration. He was appointed to the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia in 1998, and promoted to the U.S. Court of Appeals in 2003 after Democrats initially stalled his nomination.

He is considered to be a conservative along the lines of Justice Antonin Scalia, but without the scarcasm and sharp tounge.

The Court War begins tonight.
