NEWT FOR PRESIDENT? MAYBE
Former Georgia Congressman and Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich has been out of the legislative branch for several years, but his mind is still turned toward the Beltway. An AP story today says that one of the strongest proponents of the conservative movement during Ronald Reagan's presidency is making moves toward a possible 2008 presidential run.
His new book slams the Bush Administration's policy on Iraq, and he is visiting early primary states such as Iowa and New Hampshire to promote "Winning the Future: A 21st Century Contract With America". While he says the chances of his actually making a run is "...not very likely", the former House Speaker did say that "if I have an impact on public policy and do it in a way that is exciting and positive, why wouldn't I want to do that?"
The AP included several brief excerpts from Gingrich's book.
