NEW SHERIFF TO TAKE HIS OATH IN CHURCH

Generally, you would expect a new sheriff to take his oath of office in the courthouse, or in the Sheriff's Office headquarters, or at least somewhere else. But Polk County Sheriff-elect Grady Judd will take his in church. The ceremony, scheduled for today at 9:00 AM, will be held at Lakeland's First Baptist Church at the Mall.

Judd is replacing Lawrence W. Crow, who is retiring. Crow is, however, putting his name on a list of retired sheriffs available to take over another department if needed.

Just a passing thought...

The First Baptist Church, formerly a "traditional" downtown house of worship, moved a few years ago into the old Lakeland Mall on Memorial Boulevard to become a "mini-mega church".
