AND WHILE WE'RE TALKING ABOUT CHUCK TODD'S RANKINGS...

Let's look at what The Hotline editor-in-chief has to say about Florida's race for governor, which he ranks at 11th:

Let's do some math. Both Crist and Gallagher have raised an enormous amount of money (Crist, nearly $7 million; Gallagher, about $5 million) – and they've done it with a $500 contribution limit. That's a quarter of the federal limit. How many Senate candidates right now are capable of raising $20 to $28 million in a single year? That's what makes both Republicans seem so formidable when it comes to a general election. The Democratic donor base is paltry compared to the GOP base. Money alone is the reason we can't bring ourselves to move this race into the top 10.

The gubernatorial race here does, however, rank above a couple of others that will likely receive more media attention: The California race, featuring incumbant Arnold Schwarzenegger (R), is ranked 14th; the Texas race with another incumbant, Rick Perry (R), is 21st.

Meanwhile, Todd has ranked the top 5 presidential candidates for each party:

DEMOCRATS:
1) U.S. Senator Hillary Rodham-Clinton (NY)
2) Former Governor Mark Warner (VA)
3) Former U.S. Senator John Edwards (NC)
4) U.S. Senator Evan Bayh (IN)
5) Governor Bill Richardson (NM)

REPUBLICANS
1) U.S. Senator John McCain (AZ)
2) U.S. Senator George Allen (VA)
3) Governor Mitt Romney (MA)
4) Governor Mike Huckabee (AR)
5) Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich (GA)

He collectively ranks "The Rest" together, and there are some interesting names there for you to consider.

Keep your eye on Sen Bayh... He may not be making any huge splashes in the media, but he's taking a page from the Tortise and the Hare... Slow and steady wins the race.

Bayh's making the rounds, gathering the cash and setting a VERY solid foundation for next year. The other candidates... is their foundation going to be made on the sand or the rock?
