IS THERE A NEW "KING OF THE 'GLADES"?
The photo above shows the result of a battle between a 13-foot Burmese python and a six foot alligator in Everglades National Park recently, and neither survived.
There was some evidence that the 'gator was injured before meeting up with the python, and apparantly the snake didn't finish the kill before attempting to swallow his meal whole. As a result, it is likely that the alligator kept on clawing at the snake's innerds, causing the python to explode.
Over the years, a number of python owners have released their snakes into the Everglades, causing their population to increase dramatically. As a result, biologists fear that it could pose a danger to the Everglades restoration project and threaten a number of species there.
