POLK COMMISSION CANDIDATE CHARGED WITH BATTERY

With the exception of Democrat Jean Reed, who is running for the District 4 seat on the Polk County Commission, all the candidates for the four seats available in this fall's election are Republicans, and they tend to make things rather interesting sometimes.

For those people who believed that District 2 incumbant Randy Wilkinson was a bit "off the chain" during his time in office, they may be having some second thoughts this morning. It seems that his opponent, 67-year old David Duncan Hallock was arrested Wednesday evening by Bartow police officers on a battery charge against his daughter.

According to the Lakeland Ledger report, Hallock and his daughter were having a verbal argument over his grandchild's whereabouts.

The argument "escalated" when Hallock told his daughter to leave and began "shoving" her toward the door, the report said.

Hallock's daughter then fell to floor, and Hallock started hitting her in the face with an "open hand," the report said.

Hallock was released Thursday. Here is the his information from the Polk County Jail Website.

UPDATE: 05/11: Hallock announced this week that he is withdrawing his candidacy.
