HARRIS TV AIDS TO AIR BEGINNING WEDNESDAY

The Tampa Tribune is reporting on it's Web site this afternoon that Congresswoman Katherine Harris (R - Longboat Key) has made a unusually large media buy for TV advertisements and rather early for a candidate who (for now) does not have a primary.

The ads are scheduled to begin running Wednesday throughout Florida except in the Miami-Ft. Lauderdale market.

According to the Tribune story:

Harris spokesman Chris Ingram characterized the ads as “a reintroduction of Katherine Harris, if you will, demonstrating her commitment to the race” and her being “tested in the fires of the public arena. She’s a fighter. And the best person to take on Bill Nelson in November.”

Such ads typically don’t air until candidates get beyond a primary. The Florida primary is Sept. 5.

Some have suggested Harris is either trying to discourage Republican Allan Bense, the Florida House Speaker, from stepping into the race, or, in a preliminary to bowing out, making a last stab at rehabbing her reputation.

Of course, the claims against Nelson would be false, as the Democratic incumbant is much more centrist than many of his fellow Senators. And, if you really want to discuss someone being a cow-towing, lock-stepping, Kool-Aid drinking type...one should look no further than Mrs. Harris. I'm sure many intelligent voters will realize that.
