BILIRAKIS' SON HAS SOME OPPOSITION

According to the St. Petersburg Times political blog The Buzz, it looks as though there will be a GOP primary in the 9th Congressional District.

State Representative Gus Bilirakis (R - Palm Harbor) is seeking to replace his father, Mike Bilirakis, who is retiring after 23 years in Congress. Gus has reportedly raised over $600,000 along with support from both Florida and DC.

But Adam C. Smith says in The Buzz that according to Pinellas GOP chairman Tony DiMatteo, Palm Harbor chiropractor David Langheier has decided to challenge Bilirakis.

Speaking to Smith last month, Langheier said "I really think there should be choices and options in this process...I've done some polling, and I'm looking at it seriously."

DiMatteo, who is supporting Bilirakis, said "I've never heard of him, but he'd have to be kind of foolhardy." and suggested that only a celebrity or millionaire willing to fund their own campaign would have much of a shot.
