ARONBERG PREDICTS "VERY NEGATIVE" GOP GOV PRIMARY
Betty Parker in today's Fort Myers News-Press mentioned a visit by State Senator Dave Aronberg (D - Greenacres) to a meeting of Businesspeople United for Political Action, a predominatly Republican organization in that area. Aronberg is supporting senate collegue Rod Smith (D - Alachua) in his campaign for governor, and made sure the businesspeople in the audience knew it.
When asked who he would support in the GOP primary if he were Republican, Aronberg said that both Attorney General Charlie Crist and Chief Financial Officer Tom Gallagher were "formidable candidates". He then mentioned that Crist and Gallagher were not friends, and predicts "a very negative campaign."
Quoting from Ms. Parker's column:
If anyone believes last year's campaign between Bill McCollum and winner Mel Martinez for the GOP nomination in the U.S. Senate race "was ugly, you haven't seen anything yet," Aronberg said.
"They'll go negative, and it will present a great opportunity for the Democrats."
That should be interesting to watch. It'll be different watching the Republicans fight among themselves.
