WELL, AT LEAST SOMEONE, SOMEWHERE IS DOING SOMETHING!

It wasn't long ago that I posted here that people have to be constantly reminded about being cautious in dealing with people who offer to make repairs to your home, especially after our destructive hurricane season last year.

Today the Daytona Beach News-Journal reports the good news of one Ormand-by-the Sea couple who have been arrested for working as contractors without the proper licenses. While the charge is normally a misdemeanor, the couple have been charged with a felony because the violation occured during the state of emergency declared after the hurricanes. They could end up serving up to five years in prison for their deeds.

The complaint came after they did shoddy work to one couple's roof, causing $13,000 worth of damage and making their sun porch unusuable because mold in the exposed insulation could cause problems to one of the residents, whose immune system has been weakened by cancer treatments.

It's one case, but it should serve as a warning to anyone taking advantage of people who are vunerable because of the situation caused by the hurricanes. And don't forget...CHECK THE LICENSES OF ANYONE wanting to work on your home or whom you seek out to do such.
