HOW STUPID CAN PEOPLE ACTUALLY BE?

CNN reported an hour ago that evacuation efforts by FEMA of refugees from the Louisiana Superdome to Houston has been suspended...not for any logistical reason, but because some STUPID PUNK B**TARDS were firing weapons at the military helicopters taking people out to the staging areas! Not only that, but boat rescues were also suspended because some people had become violent toward the rescuers.

Widespread looting and random gunfire have been reported across the city. Police told CNN that groups of armed men roamed the streets overnight.

Officers told CNN they lacked manpower and steady communications to properly do their jobs -- and that they needed help to prevent the widespread looting and violence now prevalent in the city.

Police also told CNN that among the first items looted from stores in the area were guns -- and that officers followed behind with looting of their own, taking whatever ammunition was left to keep it off the streets.

This is the type of behaviour one would expect in Haiti during it's political crisis, or among the Iraqi insurgency right now.

This is the type of crisis that deserves a "ruthless" response if necessary, including orders to shoot looters on site. That is certainly harsh, and I realize that people are desperate. But the rule of law and civility must prevail or we risk falling into long term chaos.
