AFTER THE HEAVY DRUMBEATS, QUIET FROM HARRIS
Sarasota Herald Tribune political columnist Jeremy Wallace notes that after Congresswoman Katherine Harris (R - Sarasota) began her U.S. Senate campaign with a bang a couple of weeks ago, now there's quiet from her camp.
This comes after a couple of slipups including criticism by parents after a campaign stop in front of a Hillsborough County elementary school and an embarrassing performance on the Fox News Channel programme "Hannity & Colmes" where she stumbled over her words and repeated herself several times.
That is combined with her continuing freefall in the most recent Quinnipac University poll which notes that only 24 percent of the 1,187 respondants believe that Harris can defeat incumbant Democrat Bill Nelson next November.
But Nelson is not taking anything for granted, and knows what the GOP will do to win. As he told the Fort Myers News-Press political reporter Betty Parker during a recent visit to Lee County:
"They'll attack me with everything they've got...They'll use lies. They'll make up things. But I plan to respond firmly and quickly. I have a good reputation of 30 years in office to stand on."
